‘Common Core’ standards clearer, - Christian Audig

The Thomas B. Fordham Institute analyzed the standards in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and found that the Common Core State Standards are more rigorous than those in three-quarters of all states.

Only three had higher standards in English,Christian Audigier, while none were better than the Common Core standards in math.

An analysis by an education policy think tank finds that the cheap true religion common academic standards many states will be adopting are clearer and more rigorous than those currently used in most states.

The Common Core standards have been adopted by 25 cheap true religion states,Abercrombie swimwear, and about 40 are expected to sign up by September. The state-led initiative aims to establish a uniform set of expectations on what students should know by the time they graduate high school.

Lion with pearl centerpiece at Chanel - True Relig

PARIS (AFP) – A monumental lion, teeth bared and one front paw resting proprietorially on a giant pearl, held centre stage, its golden coat caught in the setting sun under the glass dome of the Grand Palais.

But the symbolism of Coco’s fetish pearls was clear enough. It was a witty touch to have the models disgorged onto the runway from the pearl which opened like an oyster.

While his ready-to-wear lines for next autumn-winter were all shaggy fake fur, shown against genuine melting ice floes, Lagerfeld’s couture collection was very much in keeping with the house’s traditions.

He showed them in the hallmark handcrafted tweeds in oatmeal, hazelnut, chestnut and plum, with a noticeable absence of black.

Earlier Tuesday the house’s chief stylist, Italian Riccardo Tisci, unveiled 10 outfits in private rooms in the ritzy Place Vendome. In white, powder pink and gold, one dress alone took nearly 1,200 hours work, while another, mingling gold chains and lace in a tulle ensemble with a silk satin corset, kept 40 people busy for two weeks.

Some jackets had double breasted jewel buttons in front, which then continued down the dress underneath, others were buttoned demurely down the back.

French designer Stephane Rolland’s collection, also cheap juicy shown Tuesday, had a Gothic feel, full of floor-sweeping billowing capes, elbow-length gauntlets and second-skin leathers with zippers down the front, in black and murky greys and browns.

Except for their hair,True Religion, worn loose, models looked cocooned in their puffy gowns, with a top layer of sheer silk chiffon adding to the padded effect.

His new season’s take on the Chanel suit was a neat bolero jacket, with sleeves cropped above or around the elbow, worn over clingy skirts or body-hugging dresses, even incorporated into them.

Silhouettes were exaggerated with giant cowl necklines, or pointed collars like wind cones, and leg’o'mutton sleeves. Crystal brooches and belt buckles were huge and clunky.

A geometric shiny satin print glittered with lines of rhinestones and a frock in lacquered red sequins had flower appliques strewn from the hip.

To add luxury, knobbly tweeds were threaded with lurex and collars,Nike, cuffs and hemlines were even double-edged in fur.

The click of the models’ heels on the parquet echoed as they showed the clothes in movement. A black lace dress with laser-cut leather appliques across the bosom, worn with a skirt worked in ostrich feathers in graduated shades of grey mounted on tulle, was a perfect example of the dizzying level of workmanship demanded by couture.

Among the stand-out pieces were a tailcoat embroidered with pink and green flowers, ending in a natty bow, and a sparkly tapestry top in muted shades of pink, blue and green, set against an autumnal brown.

At their wrists the models dangled extraordinary bracelets, a confusion of chains and precious stones, and they were shod in boots which looked like the golden curls of a lion’s mane.

More glamorous variations on the same theme were cheap juicy offered for after dusk, spangled with thousands of minuscule two millimetre pearls.

Givenchy has decided from now on to present its couture collection to customers in the intimate surroundings of a salon, far away from the hullabaloo of the catwalk show.

This manner of presentation gives it back its feeling of exclusivity and "does proper justice to couture" because it enables you to see all the details, the house’s press service explained.

Karl Lagerfeld is a past master at dreaming up attention-grabbing scenarios for his Chanel shows, and Tuesday night’s was no exception.

It looked like an allusion to Jean Cocteau’s Surreal cheap juicy masterpiece "Beauty and the Beast" when the traditional bride at the end was accompanied by a groom wearing a lion’s head over his wedding suit. However Lagerfeld told AFP it had been inspired by a small bronze lion found in Coco Chanel’s apartment.

Countrywide VIP loans reached deep int - Ankh Roya

It previously was revealed that Mudd received preferential treatment along with former CEO Franklin Raines, former vice chairman Jamie Gorelick and ex-CEO Jim Johnson.

"In 1999, Countrywide reached an exclusive cheap juicy agreement to sell Fannie Mae billions of dollars in mortgages at a discounted rate," Issa said in the letter.

Fannie spokesman Brian Faith said he had no comment on Issa’s letter or the documents.

He pointed to an earlier statement when he said: "The company’s conflict-of-interest policy requires the disclosure of potential conflicts of interest and prohibits acceptance of substantial gifts, including loans with preferential terms, from an organization seeking to do business with the company without prior review and approval by the company."

WASHINGTON – The former Countrywide Financial Corp. gave preferential loans to more than three dozen employees of Fannie Mae while the two giant housing cheap juicy enterprises were locked in an expanding, multi-billion dollar business relationship in subprime mortgages, documents show.

Records compiled by a trade publication, Inside Mortgage Finance, show Fannie rapidly expanding its purchases of Countrywide mortgages and a decline in sales of them to Freddie.

Countrywide was acquired by Bank of America in mid-2008. The documents were turned over to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee by Bank of America. The government seized control of Fannie Mae and its smaller government-sponsored competitor, Freddie Mac, in September 2008. So far, the takeover has cost taxpayers $145 billion and is likely to be the most expensive of all the financial bailouts.

In 1998, Countrywide sold $25.6 billion in loans to Fannie and $17.7 billion to Freddie. By 1999,Ankh Royalty, the figures were $30.8 billion to $11.2 billion in Fannie’s favor. By 2004, the spread was much wider: $67.7 billion in Countrywide mortgages sold to Fannie Mae compared with $2.9 billion in mortgages sold to Freddie Mac.

Countrywide’s VIP section, established to handle preferential mortgages for favored customers, serviced a variety of Fannie employees who handled Fannie’s business of buying mortgages and selling mortgage-backed bonds. Recipients included an account manager, a lobbyist, underwriters, lawyers, a home loan manager, a sales executive and a credit risk manager.

Doug Duvall, spokesman for Freddie Mac, said, "We have a code of conduct that says employees cannot solicit or accept discount prices or more favorable loan terms on the basis of their being Freddie Mac employees."

Discounted mortgages written by Countrywide, once the nation’s largest subprime lender, were granted to a far wider group of Fannie employees than the four top executives executives whose preferential loans were previously disclosed, according to Countrywide documents provided to Congress under a subpoena.

"Make sure the branch and RVP understand the sensitivity of this deal," the e-mail said. "We already are taking a loss, it would be horrible to add a service complaint on top and lose any benefit we generate." The meaning of RVP is unclear.

The documents reveal that when Countrywide was depending on cheap juicy government-sponsored firms to finance billions of dollars worth of subprime loans that touched off the housing meltdown, it was giving employees at the largest of those companies — Fannie Mae — sweetheart deals on their own home loans.

Also among the subpoenaed documents was a May 2001 "confidential and proprietary" e-mail from a Countrywide official to other company officials discussing the sensitivity of the discounted VIP mortgage loan to Daniel Mudd,Affliction, then Fannie’s vice chairman and chief operating officer. He later became chief executive.

In a letter to the Federal Housing Finance Agency — the government agency that regulates Fannie Mae and a smaller competitor, Freddie Mac — Issa said Countrywide’s 153 loans to 37 Fannie employees were part of a attempt to vastly expand business with Fannie to the detriment of Freddie. Though government-chartered institutions, both Fannie and Freddie were owned by private stockholders.

Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the House committee’s senior Republican, said Countrywide’s preferential VIP mortgages for Fannie employees spiked in 1998, when Countrywide was negotiating volume discounts on the subprime mortgages it was selling, and again from 2001 to 2003, at the edge of a housing and mortgage boom.

NY sues BofA, Merrill to pursue higher award - D&G

DiNapoli filed the lawsuits after choosing to "opt out" of 2007 shareholder litigation against Merrill and 2009 litigation against Bank of America,D&G, the largest U.S. bank by assets.

Defendants include onetime Bank of America Chief Executive Kenneth Lewis and Chief Financial Officer Joe Price, and former Merrill Chief Executive Stanley O’Neal.

The Common Fund owned 3.06 million Bank of America shares and 4.83 million Merrill shares, court records show.

Bank of America agreed to buy Merrill on September 15, 2008. Merrill lost $15.8 billion in the fourth quarter of that year,G-Star, even as it paid out $3.6 billion of bonuses. The merger was completed on January 1, 2009.

The cases are DiNapoli v. Merrill Lynch & Co et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 10-05562, and DiNapoli v. Bank of America Corp et al in the same court, No. 10-05563.

In February, U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff accepted Bank of America’s $150 million settlement of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charges that it misled shareholders about the merger, an accord he called "half-baked justice at best."

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has separately filed civil fraud charges against Bank of America, Lewis and Price.

(Reporting by Jonathan Stempel; Additional reporting by Grant McCool in New York and Joe Rauch in Charlotte, N.C., editing by Gerald E. McCormick and Robert MacMillan)

NEW YORK (Reuters) – New York has sued Bank of America Corp (BAC.N) and its Merrill Lynch & Co unit over the companies’ merger and Merrill’s subprime mortgage exposure, hoping to recover more by suing on its own than by joining existing class-action litigation.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli filed two lawsuits on Thursday in the U.S. district court in Manhattan to recover losses suffered by the $132.5 billion New York cheap juicy State Common Retirement Fund, which he oversees.

"These companies thought they could get away with profiting at the expense of New York’s pensioners and taxpayers through fraudulent activities and misleading public disclosures," DiNapoli said in a statement. "They were mistaken."

DiNapoli is running for reelection as comptroller in November. Cuomo is running for governor. Both are Democrats.

"Our attorneys believe this gives us a chance to get a better recovery," perhaps reaching "tens of millions of dollars," spokesman Robert Whalen said in an interview.

Bank of America shares were up 34 cents, or 2.5 percent, at $13.70 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Bill Halldin, a spokesman for Charlotte, North Carolina-cheap juicy based Bank of America, declined to comment.

One complaint accuses Bank of America of misleading shareholders about Merrill’s losses as it prepared to buy the Wall Street bank in late 2008. The other accuses Merrill of misleading shareholders about its risk management and exposures to mortgage securities and collateralized debt obligations.
